Joseph Henry Nicolson was the mayor of Durban at the end of the First World War. He was admitted as an attorney on 1 July 1890 and from 1909 onwards he conducted his own practice which, by the time of his death on 23 January 1931, was known as JH Nicolson and Son. Alf Stiller had been his last articled clerk and took over the practice, ultimately to form the practice of JH Nicolson Stiller & Geshen (“NSG Attorneys”) on 1 May 1935, when Ben Geshen joined him. Alf and Ben passed on their uncompromising standards to their successors, David Levin, Buster Burnard, and Melvyn Geshen. Today, NSG Attorneys is a practice which provides a full range of legal services of the same high standard set by its founding partners, and is renowned for its commitment to integrity and service excellence.
